Temporomandibular Disorders (TMD) refer to a group of conditions affecting the jaw joint, the masticatory muscles, or both. Common symptoms include jaw or temple pain, clicking or crepitus during mouth opening, limited opening, morning headaches, and referred pain to the ear or neck.
Muscular vs. Articular Disorders: This distinction is clinically important. Muscular disorders (myofascial pain) are often associated with bruxism — clenching or grinding of the teeth — and generally respond well to conservative treatments such as occlusal splints, physiotherapy, and, in refractory cases, botulinum toxin injections (Botox®, Xeomin®, Dysport®). Internal joint disorders (disc displacement, osteoarthritis) may require advanced imaging (MRI, CBCT) and targeted interventions such as arthrocentesis.
The Role of Botulinum Toxin (Botox®, Xeomin®, Dysport®) in TMD: Injections into the masseter and temporalis muscles can reduce muscle contraction strength, help relieve myofascial pain, and decrease the load transmitted to the joint.
Procedures we offer
Comprehensive Clinical Evaluation and TMJ Imaging
Assessment of mandibular movements, muscle palpation, occlusal analysis, panoramic or CBCT/MRI.
Botulinum Toxin (Botox®, Xeomin®, Dysport®) in Masticatory Muscles
Targeted injections to relax hyperactive muscles and reduce myofascial pain and joint loading.
TMJ Arthrocentesis
Joint lavage and injection of plasma into the joint cavity.
Interdisciplinary Coordination
Referral for splint fabrication, physiotherapy, chronic pain management, or rheumatology.
